Summary: Twenty patients with high degree genital prolapse, in post-menopausal age, were submitted to vaginal treatment with estriol cream, 30-40 days before surgery. The patients were compared with a control group. The evaluation of the symptoms and of the objective status was made. The cyto-histological changes of the endometrium and of most of all of the vaginal wall was studied before and after the treatment. This terapy resulted in a clear improvement of the vaginal trophism,especially for what it concerns the details of the epitelium and in some cases of the elastic fibers about the connective tissue.
