Summary: The clinical indications of second look laparotomy (SLL) include: (1) restaging of the patients by gynecologic oncologists after previous inadequate assessment, (2) studing the effects of chemotherapy after traditional regimens or clinical research protocols and (3) evaluating the patients apparently free of disease after chemoterapy. Residual tumor (RT) at primary surgery seems to be very important. We observed an overall survival of 58.8% after 3 years in cases with RT=0 or < 2cm as opposed to 34.1% of cases with RT> 2cm ( p< 0.05 ). The importance of an optimal debulking at primary operation is well documented.
