179. Prognostic Significance of DNA Content in Advanced Epithelial Ovarian Cancer: Relationship between Second-Look Surgery and Relapse of Disease.

Summary: Ninety-six patients treated at San Raphael Hospital in Milan from Jan. 1987 to Dec. 1996 were reviewed. Seventy-one percent of tumors were DNA-aneuploid and 29% were DNA-diploid tumors. The 5-year survival for patients with DNA-diploid tumors (47.9%) was significantly higher than for DNA- aneuploid tumors (19.9%) (p<0.003). Forty-four patients underwent second-look surgery and 26 (59%) were negative. Thirteen of these 26 patients had a relapse of disease: 2 (15.3%) had low DNA-index, and 11 (84.7%) had high DNA-index (chi2 0.04). Aneuploid DNA content is correlated with more aggressive biologic behavior and it is determinant in predicting recurrence of advanced ovarian tumors
