In 70% of 96 patients DNA patterns were non-diploid. The 5-year survival was significantly longer for diploid-cases (50%) vs. DNA-aneuploid tumors (17%) (p<0.002)
Other prognostic factors related to patient-survival were age (p<0.008), stage (p<0.007), tumor grade (p<0.02), and residual disease (0.00001). Forty-four patients underwent second look surgery and 26 (59%) were negative. Thirteen out of these 26 (50%) presented a relapse of the disease. Out of these 13 patients, 2 (15.3%) had low DNA-index, and 11 (84.7%) showed high DNA-index(X2=0.04) The subgroup of pts. With high DNA-index appears at high risk of relapse after negative second-look surgery.
